Internet and Microsoft Office for adults and youth
There are 20 adult public Internet stations at the Main Library, along with two in the Young Adult Area and two in the Children's Center. At the Shute Park branch there are 24 adult public Internet stations, including 10 in the Digital Bridge, along with two in the Youth Services room. Many of these stations also offer Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
A library card is required to log in to most of the adult stations. Visitors from out of town may obtain a guest login at the Reference desk upon showing identification. Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations are not available.
Stations in the adult area have a default filter which may be turned off at the discretion of the user. Stations in the Youth Services area are always filtered. Viewing of inappropriate sites is always restricted in the library. Per our Internet policy , Internet computers will not be used for illegal activity, to access illegal materials, or to access materials which by local community standards would be obscene.
Adult Internet stations may be used for one hour per day per user. Youth Services Internet stations may be used for 30 minutes per session, up to one hour per day per user. Users are automatically logged off of the computer when their time has expired.
Children need to be at least eight years of age to use the Internet stations without close adult supervision since basic reading, writing, typing, and familiarity with computer machinery are necessary for appropriate use of the equipment.
