Storytimes

For preschoolers and family groups.

No registration is required for storytime.

The library offers three types of storytimes:

  1. Traditional preschool storytime is offered for ages three through five at the Main Library on Wednesday and Thursdays at 10:15am.
  2. Spanish language storytimes are presented at Shute Park on Tuesdays evenings 6:30-7 p.m.
  3. Family storytimes feature picture and toddler books. These programs are offered at the Shute Branch on Tuesdays at 10:15am, and at the Main Library on Tuesdays at 6:30pm

A variety of picturebooks are read to the group, interspersed with fingerplays and stretching activities. Each storytime lasts about 45 minutes. During family storytime sessions, the books increase in length and complexity as the program progresses, moving from toddler-level books to pre-school level.

This program is offered at Main and Shute weekly throughout the year with breaks in August and December. Printed schedules are available in the library.

Due to the large number of daycares in the area and the heavy attendance at storytimes, we cannot accommodate regular visits by groups. Preschool groups are instead encouraged to contact Youth Services for a tour of the library, which usually includes a brief, private storytime session.  (503) 615-6500
