Library Services
A look at who we are and what functions we perform in the Library.
Circulation Services
The Circulation Division is the backbone of the library. All materials coming in and going out of the library are handled by our competent and friendly staff. At the front desk, a few of the many duties we assist you with include:
- Issuing, updating and replacing library cards
- Explaining library policies
- Renewing items
- Updating account information
- Collecting overdue fees and lost and damaged fines
- Answering circulation related questions
Behind the scene, we are the ones who:
- Empty book drops
- Scan and check in all returned items
- Sort and shelve all incoming library material
- Pull and process holds placed by our patrons, as well as those for patrons at other Washington County Libraries
- Deal with missing and damaged materials
- Renew library materials and answer circulation-related question over the phone
- Perform many other clerical and related library duties too numerous to list
It is our job to do the above tasks while making sure we are creating a friendly atmosphere and giving our patrons the best customer service we possibly can. We look forward to serving you!
Reader Services
The staff at the Hillsboro Public Library are here to help you discover and successfully use the collections. We serve children from birth to 18 years of age and adults from college to retirement years. In addition, we are here to assist parents, caregivers, teachers and students of all ages! We are here to assist patrons with varied needs at different times of their lives. While we have librarians on staff who specialize in Youth or Adult Services, all librarians will assist you either directly or by referring you to someone who will help you. Even during times when the library is closed, the site provides a link to 24/7 electronic reference service via L-Net.
