Director's Message
Library Director Mike Smith Welcomes You
Greetings and welcome to the Hillsboro Public Library Web site!
The Main Library has been in its new location at 2850 NE Brookwood Parkway for a year now and we are gratified by the positive public response to the new building. Items checked out from the Main Library this year are up 19% over the previous year at the Tanasbourne site. Open hours and adult and children's programming have been increased at both the Main Library and the Shute Park Branch.
The Shute Park Branch had a major “spiffing-up” in December, with new carpeting, rearrangement of collections and computers and addition of a self-checkout station. New lighting, paint and more light through the windows have brightened the public space. A new sidewalk between the entrance and Tenth Avenue solved access and water problems. More work on the building’s internal systems is due in the Fall.
A traffic light was installed at the Main Library in February, permitting left turns out of the parking lot. A beautiful and unique new bus shelter will soon be installed on the west side of the entrance intersection.
The Friends of the Library held their spring used book sale and shattered their former record by netting over $22,000. Proceeds of the sale go to the library and to help fulfill the Friend's $250,000 pledge to the Library Foundation of Hillsboro capital campaign fund.
Summer Reading is here with special programs for children, adults and families. Explore this website for coming events and links to resources. Hillsboro Public Library partners with other libraries in Oregon and in the Washington County Cooperative Library system to deliver online services to you. My thanks to our Reader Services Manager, Carol Reich, for this information-rich website!
Please come visit us at our bricks and mortar sites, too--our library staff is here to serve you.
